Why does the best Fortnite player in the world, Peterbot, still stick with 1000Hz polling rate – even in 2025?

With options like 2000Hz, 4000Hz, and 8000Hz promising lower latency, you’d think everyone would upgrade. So why haven’t they? Here’s why.

Most Pros Still Use 1000Hz – Here’s the Data

Peterbot isn’t alone. If you look at this updated spreadsheet of top Fortnite professionals, the majority are still sticking with 1000Hz.
And no—they’re not using outdated mice either.

Most of them use modern competitive mice like the:

Both fully support higher polling rates. The Viper V3 Pro launched with 4000Hz out of the box, and the Superlight 2 received an 8K firmware update months ago.

It’s not a hardware limitation—this is a deliberate choice.

Casual Players Agree Too

It’s not just pros. Even casual players on Reddit still prefer 1000Hz, according to polls on r/mousereview— and this is in 2025.

That’s surprising, especially considering how aggressively companies have marketed 8000Hz. Some mice even have “4K” or “8K” in the actual name.

So… Why Isn’t Everyone Switching?

Because most people can’t feel a difference.

Polling rate just tells your PC how often the mouse sends data.
At 1000Hz, that’s once every 1 millisecond.
At 8000Hz, it’s every 0.125ms.

We’re talking fractions of milliseconds.
To the average player—and even some pros—it’s virtually impossible to feel.

In fact, one user with a 360Hz OLED display said they couldn’t notice any difference between 1K and 8K. That says a lot.

Higher Polling Rates Can Hurt Performance

Here’s where things get worse.

Yes—8000Hz gives slightly lower latency. But it uses more CPU. A lot more.

Many users report micro-stuttering and worse performance in actual gameplay, which completely defeats the purpose of upgrading.

And if you’re on a wireless mouse?
Say goodbye to your battery.

A mouse that lasts 95 hours at 1000Hz might only last 17 hours at 8000Hz.
That’s over 5x worse—and that’s without RGB.

Mouse companies know this is an issue. That’s why some now release wired-only 8K mice—just to avoid battery and performance problems.

The Funniest Part of the Debate

Here’s one of my favorite comments from the RocketJumpNinja YT channel:

That comment sums it up perfectly—most people think higher polling rates feel better, but in reality, they can’t tell. It’s pure placebo for most players.

Final Thoughts

Pros don’t use 1000Hz because it’s the newest or flashiest setting.
They use it because it’s reliable, performs consistently, and doesn’t mess with your system.

Sometimes the “upgrade” isn’t actually an upgrade.

So if you’re thinking of switching to 4000Hz or 8000Hz, just know:

  • The difference is hard to feel.
  • It could hurt your performance.
  • And you’ll be charging your mouse a lot more.
